2025 Hoop City 3×3 School Festival Makes Its Debut

Ross Sheppard High School was the setting for this inaugural 3×3 Basketball Association event on Saturday, April 5th. It was the first time that the Edmonton junior and senior highs were involved in helping promote a 3×3 tournament to its member schools. Over 30 teams signed up and a great time was had by all!

Intense competition between boys and girls U14, U16 and U18 teams took place after a clinic featuring Edmonton and Canadian 3×3 superstars, Michelle and Katherine Plouffe and Steve Sir, walked the excited participants through the nuances and rules of the Olympic sport. With a deejay setting the tone, each game was hard fought and competitive.

‘3×3 is a fast paced, continuous action hybrid version of traditional basketball,’ 3x3BA CEO Paul Sir stated. ‘Our aim was to get the game into the sports bloodstream of our city’s schools so athletes of all abilities could experience how much fun the sport is. It is our goal to use the success of this first event to find new ways to bring 3×3 into our schools and communities going forward.’

The divisional champions were:

U14 Girls – MAC Athletics

U14 Boys A – Lions

U14 Boys B – Heat Check

U18 Boys – Shep 1

U18 Girls – Sturgeon

3x3BA wants to thank the staff and students from Ross Sheppard High School for their work in hosting the tournament. Sincere appreciation is also offered to Metro and Junior High Athletics, the Edmonton Basketball Officials Association and the behind the scenes organizers. Most importantly, a special thank you to the athletes, teachers, coaches and families who made the day so enjoyable.
